1982 and pre 1982 pennies are copper. Many are in todays circulation and can be found easily. A copper penny as of todays copper price is worth almost 2 and 1/2 cents. That is over 100 % gains on a small scale for the cost of a penny. Sorting is tedious but you can make or buy a machine that will seperate the heavier copper pennies from the newer zinc based pennies. Another advantage is that there may be some valuable pennies in that group. 1969 s Penny is a good example.
You can also purchase pre 1982 pennies by the pound on the internet if you would prefer not sorting thru circulation ! Keep in mind Canada discontinued their Penny as of the beginning of 2013. The same could happen in the U S.
