Modern Coin Rarity

It`s all about making money. Rare coins and their gains. Most of us cannot even come close to afford the original`s of the far past. This should be obvious if you look at the prices they sell for .

Today provides new opportunities with recent coins coming from the mint at a reasonable price. Some better opportuntites can be right after they have been slabbed. Take note that not every year will be a big winner. The trend has been set for the right coins though. In years where the price of bullion Gold is higher the sale of those particular coins at the US Mint decrease the mintage amount down to all time record lows. An example is the 2012 W Gold Eagle fractionals. Looking back the trend has been obvious and 1995 W Silver Eagle Proof that came with the Gold Set only is an example of that. The year also a P mint ( not to be confused with the W )but produced in high numbers. Todays difference in prices is $ 100.00 dollar range for the P and $ 3000.00 for the W Mint with the lower grade of 69. PF 70`s are much higher. A huge difference. The full set is now priced around $ 7800.00 ungraded with a low selection.

So let`s move forward to 2008. The same thing happened with the W Bufaalo Proofs and even the Uncirculated, fractionals and all. That trend hasn`t changed, 2012 is another year that had low sales due to the higher spot price of Gold. The result was very low numbers that were slabbed in the fractionals, namely PCGS which usually grades less coins with a high reputation of their name. First Strike slabbed coins brought even higher prices. Coin purchasing is all about longer term trends and the selection. It`s all about numbers and popularity. Never go against a trend. Your returns will be better !
